We are currently seeking a Public Health Research Assistant . This position located in Baltimore, MD .

The successful applicant will work as a Research Assistant/Technician supporting a clinical program conducting multidisciplinary clinical research studies. These studies evaluate the nature of drug abuse and addiction by assessing the abuse potential of drugs, investigating their underlying mechanisms and assessing treatment modalities for substance use disorders. You will perform research and administrative tasks of limited technical complexity applying standard and established techniques. Responsible for performing telephone and in-person screening interviews with prospective study participants. You will be responsible for documenting interviewee responses, making preliminary assessments of eligibility, and offering treatment referrals for ineligible individuals, as needed. During in-person interviews the Research Assistant will obtain informed consent from prospective participants and conduct basic medical assessments such as obtaining vital signs, drawing blood, and breathalyzer and urine tests. The Research Assistant will be supervised, provided detailed oral and/or written instruction, and their work will be reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and soundness of judgment.

This position is contingent upon award of work.


  • Conducting telephone and in-person screening interviews

  • Documenting interviewee responses

  • Determining preliminary eligibility of individuals interested in the clinical study.

  • Collecting data

  • Organizing and filing project materials

  • Completing work products on schedule

  • Completing other specific research tasks as necessary

  • Performing job duties with discretion, professionalism, in a timely manner, as requested; excellent verbal and written communication skills are a necessary to successfully complete each major responsibility.

  • Ability to treat as highly confidential, all data and information collected as part of day-to-day operations.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or other relevant academic area with at least 1 year of experience working in a clinical, research, customer service, or call-center environment, and an interest in research.

  • Phlebotomy certification

  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft applications.

  • Demonstrated research and writing skills.

  • Ability to prioritize workload and activities of self and complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Dependable, receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem solving.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinic and research staff, patients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills.

  • Flexible team player with excellent attention to detail.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Must be US Citizen.


  • Experience assessing Substance Use Disorders via administering medical and psychiatric measures, and psychiatric Interviewing

  • Familiarity with the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM Disorders (SCID), Substance Use Disorder Evaluation (DSM-5)
