JOB SUMMARY

Battelle’s Aviation Security Division provides research development test and evaluation services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The qualified candidate for this position will support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) Test & Evaluation Quality Assurance and Quality Control Support project.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that TSL laboratory equipment, test specimens, data collection, and results analysis are in conformance with ISO registered processes so that results are reliable, defensible and repeatable. Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Performing scheduled and preventative maintenance and calibration of analytical laboratory equipment

  • Performing quality control (QC) checks on substrate and test article inventory prior to testing in accordance with established Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)

  • Performing QC checks on the concentration of synthesized materials by measuring a property of the material using methods such as Density Meter for density and specific gravity values, Refractometer for the refractive index, and UV-Vis for absorption or reflection values

  • Performing QC on data analysis to determine if the results obtained are valid and acceptable within the SOP guidelines

The candidate will support the preparation of project results, both orally and in written form and therefore must have strong interpersonal and computer skills, including use of all MS-Office applications.

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • The candidate must have a BS in chemistry, or related field from an accredited college or university with up to 2yrs experience.

  • Candidates should have some experience in the operation, maintenance and calibration of the following types of analytical equipment: HPLC, GC, IC, LC-MS, µ-CT Density Meter, UV-Vis, Refractometer, Polarimeter.

  • Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Candidates should be highly motivated and self-starter with a strong desire to learn.

  • Sole US Citizenship with eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and to obtain both TSA and DHS Suitability.

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Experience in the operation, maintenance and calibration of TSL customized equipment, IMS-MS and TD-MS.

  • Computer data processing using programs such as MS Excel.

  • Prior laboratory testing experience

  • Prior experience working for TSA or DHS

  • DoD Secret security clearance
